JUNIE B JONES THE MUSICAL JR

Join Junie B. on her first day of first grade, where many changes are in store: Junie’s best friend Lucille has found new best friends -— and Junie B. makes friends with Herb, the new kid at school. While in Mr. Scary’s class, Junie has trouble reading the blackboard — and she may need glasses. Add in a friendly cafeteria lady, an intense kickball tournament and a “Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal,” and first grade has never been more exciting.

ALL ACTORS MUST BE 18 OR UNDER

  • INITIAL AUDITIONS  In person May 2 from 9am-11am or by video
  • VIDEO AUDITIONS Due May 6
  • CALLBACKS Friday, May 8 from 4:00-6:30pm
  • CAST MEETING: Monday, May 11 from 4:30-5:15pm
  • FIRST REHEARSAL: Wednesday, May 13
  • PERFORMANCES AT STUDIO 3: June 12-20 *possible extension to June 27 (based on cast availability and ticket sales)
  • This show may be DOUBLE CAST or will have UNDERSTUDIES.

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE: *SUBJECT TO CHANGE

Not all actors are called for all rehearsals. We try to let younger performers go by 8pm when possible.

Please plan to have rehearsal conflicts listed on your audition application.

  • Friday, May 15 (4:30-9pm)
  • Saturday, May 16 (9am-2pm)
  • Thursday, May 21 (6:30-8:30pm)

  • Monday-Friday June 1-5 between 9am-4pm (not everyone called the whole time) *but you have the option to add camp for the times you are not called for rehearsal to guarantee a full day rehearsal.
  • Tech Rehearsals June 8-12 between 9am-4pm (not everyone called the whole time) *but you have the option to add camp for the times you are not called for rehearsal to guarantee a full day rehearsal.
  • Performances June 13, 14 (possible), 15, 17, 19, 20, 21 (posisble)
  • Possible Extension June 26-27 based on cast availability and ticket sales.
  • Let us know if you cannot perform on a Sunday. If multiple cast members cannot do Sundays, we will not have Sunday shows. 

PARTICIPATION FEE: 

$300 and includes a cast shirt and cast photo.

$100 for teen performers interested in cameo role only (Mother/Father/Gladys) *limited rehearsal and stage time for these lead roles.

Scholarships are available. Application for scholarships are due on the date of your audition. Additional scholarships available to committee leads.

Optional Add-Ons for Convenience & Full-Day Coverage

We know summer schedules can be busy! To help make your week as smooth as possible, we offer optional add-ons for families who need a more consistent, full-day schedule.

All-Day Flex Pass (Rehearsal + Camp Coverage)

Need a full day, even when your child isn’t scheduled for rehearsal?

With the All-Day Flex Pass, you can drop off at 8:50 AM and pick up at 4:00 PM each day, even if your child is not scheduled all day. Performers will attend their assigned rehearsal times and enjoy camp activities during any downtime hours they are not scheduled for rehearsal.

June 1-5 theme is Sparkle Squad (grades K-3), Glitz and Glam (grades 3-6) or Gaming Universe (grades K-6). June 8-12 theme is KPop.

Perfect for families who want a consistent daily schedule and a full day of fun.

$75 *in addition to your production fee

Extended Day Pass (Early Drop-Off & Late Pick-Up)

Need a little extra flexibility on both ends of the day?

Our Extended Day Pass allows for:
• Drop off as early as 8:00 AM
• Pick up as late as 6:00 PM

Campers will be supervised with games, crafts, and relaxed activities during extended hours. 

$120 per week *(includes all day camp activities when not in rehearsal, plus extended day)

VOLUNTEER HOURS

Cast families will be required to complete 10 volunteer hours for the show, work 2 show shifts, and participate in strike as outlined in the Limelight guide above: What to Expect. If you cannot donate your time to volunteer, we ask that you make a $200 donation so we can hire others to ensure a successful production.

WHAT TO PREPARE:

For your audition, prepare 30 seconds of a song and a 30 second monologue. (or you can tell us a story) Memorization is preferred but not required. You can google “monologues for kids” to find lots of ideas online.

We will sing from the show for callbacks, and read sides

NEWSIES

Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right!

CASTING ALL AGES! (Adults included!)

  • AUDITIONS In Person Thursday, May 7 from 7-8:30pm (limited appointments available)
  • DANCE WORKSHOP Monday, April 27 from 7-9pm
  • VIDEO AUDITIONS Due Wednesday, May 6
  • CALLBACKS:  May 13-15 (Appointments will be scheduled)

WHAT TO PREPARE:

For your audition, please prepare to sing, act, and dance.

  1. Choose any 30 second cut of a musical theatre song to sing (with a track. no accompanist is provided)
  2. Choose any 30 second monologue to perform if you want a non-ensemble role (memorized preferred, but not required. If you want to be ensemble only, no monologue is required)
  3. Plan to perform the audition dance. This will be taught at the workshop and posted here on April 27
  4. All performers who want to be considered for speaking newsie roles should prepare audition sides A, B, & C (featured newsies) FOUND HERE.

SUMMER INTENSIVE SHOWS WITH STUDIO 3

Studio 3 is presenting 4 unique musicals this summer! Rehearsals are 9am-4pm for a week with shows on Friday!
  • Golden: a Kpop Experience
  • Alice in Wonderland
  • Cinderella Gets Her Kicks Back
  • Oz (Wizard of Oz meets Wicked style show)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR VIDEO AUDITIONS

1. Fill out the audition application here.

2. You can record your video all together or edit it together.

3. Start by stating your name, age, and what what roles you will and will not accept, and any roles you are the most interested in. 

4. Then choose 1-2 characters and sing the songs for those characters with a karaoke track (no voices in the track)

5. For those same characters, read the script with a family member on screen with you so we can see how you interact with them. 

6. Put on your favorite song and dance for us for 30 seconds. We just want to see how you move. 

7. Upload your video to a google drive and set the sharing permissions to “view by anyone with the link” OR upload to youtube. Paste the link in the VIDEO Audition Form Here.

8. You’re all done! We’ll contact you if we need to see anything more.
